The first weekend in May is time for the Route 66 Association of Arizona’s Annual Route 66 Fun Run,
beginning in Seligman, Arizona, a Route 66 ghost town. From there it’s 140 miles West on sacred two-lane pavement, to the Colorado River, at Topock/Golden Shores, Arizona side.
All covered on Route 66 across three days. Lots of sightseeing(gateway to the Grand Canyon), music, food, fun, and of course, cars. There were over 800 cars there last year, and even more expected this year…
Here’s the schedule of events:

Here’s a quick look at last year:

Seligman is a very small town(less than 500), so the entire town fills up with classic iron, mixed in with bikes, newer cars, jalopys, antique buses, trucks, and tractors, and outright golden age masterpieces like Duesenburg and Pierce-Arrow. Usually some horseless carriages and old Ramblers there, too. This particular meet is about traveling on the mother road, so the type of car is unimportant.. EVERYTHING is welcome, even low-riders, tuners, and bicycles.
Here’s a picture of an AMC Eagle wagon in front of an old Motel on Route 66 in Seligman…
I’m heading up there this weekend, Fri 4, Sat 5, Sun 6. I expect to have a blast. Four of us are traveling around 200 miles one way, all in the mountains, a climb of around 4500 feet.
After making Molly work that hard to get there, I’ve decided not to take her on the long forced march across the desert to Kingman. Instead, we’ll be taking our time in the place we arrive at, when we get there. Or something like that. This is the part of the state where we grew up, and we want to poke around.
All this fun, In a 1974 Gremlin. My faithful little Molly Blue,
packed with camping supplies, cameras, and libation. Should be great fun…
